About This Guide

This interactive guide presents a comprehensive collection of neo-pronouns, from the earliest documented attempts at gender-neutral language in 1789 to the creative nounself pronouns that emerged in online communities in the 2010s.

Neo-pronouns are third-person personal pronouns that go beyond the traditional "he," "she," and "they." They offer individuals, particularly those who are non-binary, additional options to express their gender identity authentically.

Each pronoun set in this guide includes its complete grammatical forms, historical context, creator information (when known), and practical usage examples. Use the copy and share buttons to easily reference or share pronoun information with others.
